Ways to best manage your card

Using Your Card

We care about your long-term financial well-being and want you to be more confident in your payment and purchasing decisions.

As a result, we explain our fees and interest rates in a way that’s easy to understand and provide tips on how to avoid them. We’ve also outlined what can happen if payments aren’t made on time and how to manage your spending.

Holiday Saving Tips for Savvy Shoppers

When you’re using your enviro Visa card, keep your holiday spending
in check and your balance manageable with these credit smart tips:

  • Set your budget in advance. Write it down and watch what you spend.
  • Plan ahead and look for special sales like Black Friday (November 28), Cyber Monday (December 1) and Boxing Day (December 26)
  • Think about giving back on Giving Tuesday (December 2)
  • Spend below your credit limit to maintain a healthy credit score
  • Take advantage of the 21 day interest-free grace1 period. When due, pay your balance in full to avoid interest charges

Know and manage your credit limit

Your credit limit can be found on your enviro Visa* statement and appears online at at myvisaaccount.com or Epost™, but only when your Visa account is in good standing. Keep your balance below your credit limit and manage your spending to stay below that credit limit. Consistently spending close to the credit limit has a negative impact on your credit score. And, spending above the credit limit leads to a $10 over credit limit fee.

Stay on top of your spending

Spending within your credit limit means staying on top of your spending. Prior to the end of the statement period, you can view your transactions online at myvisaaccount.com or call us at 604.877.4999 or toll free outside the Greater Vancouver area at 1.800.611.8472 or visit us at any Vancity branch. Paper statements or electronic ones received through Epost™ provide a summary at the end of the statement period.

Make more than the minimum payment

Make it your goal to pay your balance in full by the due date. When you can only pay a portion of your balance, pay as much as you can. Even a small amount more than the minimum payment can make a big difference.

You must make at least the minimum payment on time. If you don’t, we may limit the use of your card.

Understand when and how interest is charged

For purchases that appear on your statement for the first time, you will not be charged interest if you pay the entire balance in full by the payment due date. If you don’t pay in full by the due date, interest will begin to accumulate beginning from the original transaction date. The interest rate (daily and annual) appear on the right hand side your enviro Visa statement.

For cash advances, cash-like transactions, balance transfers and amounts written on Visa cheques, you’ll be charged interest right away, starting from the date of the transaction.

Both the daily and annual interest rates appear on the right hand side on your paper or electronic enviro Visa statements received through Epost.
