Vancity partners with Catalyst to develop affordable housing

Vancouver, B.C. - Created in the Fall of 2013, Catalyst not-for-profit development society brings together development expertise, project equity and an aligned mission and vision to create community-based real estate. The society partners with other mission-driven organizations to:
- Create viable, affordable rental housing and workspaces
- Support not-for-profits in asset building and financial sustainability
- Provide "social equity" investment in community focused projects
- Ensure long term community ownership of real-estate.
At Vancity we’re changing the housing landscape by working with community partners, like Catalyst not-for-profit society. We’re much more than an investor; we’re a long-term financial partner.
Vancity has worked with Catalyst since its inception. We supported the organizational development of the society through advice on business planning, board and business development. We also provided a start-up grant. Vancity looks to support Catalyst projects on a case-by-case basis, including networking and partnerships with mission-aligned organizations, seed funding, pre-development loans, and social finance solutions.
We work with community partners to increase the supply of affordable rental and owned housing. Because it’s an integral part of our vision and values. When we help organizations develop community-owned real estate, we help more of our members and neighbours to rent, buy, sustain and support the place that they call home.
