Paula Martin

Interim Chief Human Resources Officer

As Interim Chief Human Resources Officer, Paula Martin leads a team of professionals focused on all aspects of the employee experience, ultimately in service of Vancity’s members.

Paula comes to the HR team from the Office of the CEO where she serves as Advisor to Vancity’s President and CEO, supporting their leadership reach. As part of her external-facing portfolio, Paula works with the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV), as well as other national and international organizations in the values-based banking, sustainable business, financial and co-operative sectors. She works on secondment as Senior Advisor to the GABV’s Amsterdam-based Secretariat.

Her previous roles at Vancity include Senior Vice President, Member Engagement, overseeing marketing, communications, and digital and community engagement, and Vice President, Public Affairs and Corporate Communications. Prior to joining Vancity, Paula served as Director of Public Affairs at the University of British Columbia, a global top 50 university.

Paula began her career as a journalist—as a reporter for the Winnipeg Free Press in Winnipeg, Manitoba and as a national current affairs producer for CBC Radio’s As It Happens in Toronto, Ontario. She studied at Ottawa’s Carleton University School of Journalism.

Certified through the Institute of Corporate Directors, Paula is an Order-in-Council appointee to the Board of Governors of Simon Fraser University, named Canada’s top comprehensive university, and a board director of Deetken Impact, a Canadian impact investing firm focused on renewable energy and women’s empowerment in Latin America.
