enviroFund™ grants for environmental initiatives

Grants that elevate low-carbon ways of life.

Each year, 5% of our profits from our credit cards go towards the enviroFund program.

Projects we support.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), with the right policies, infrastructure, and technology in place, we can achieve a 40-70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through lifestyle and behaviour changes.

That’s why the enviroFund program focuses on partnerships with organizations and businesses that achieve one of these two outcomes:

  • Reduce carbon emissions of individuals and businesses
  • Create the policy, business, and cultural context for low-carbon ways of life

Who we work with.

If you have a great project, we want to hear from you. We’re committed to Reconciliation, anti-racism, and financial resilience and inclusion in our grant-making, so we welcome and prioritize applications from BIPOC-led organizations and those serving equity-deserving groups.

Working towards the same goals

If you’re a not-for-profit, co-op, labour union, Indigenous organization, or First Nations government, and our values align, we want to work with you.

For the greater good

If you’re a for-profit business or social enterprise and Vancity member working to create a greater impact the business community, connect with us. Product research and development is not eligible for the enviroFund.

In the neighbourhood

We support projects that directly benefit a local community within Vancity’s operating area (Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Squamish, Capital Regional District - Victoria/Gulf Islands and/or Cormorant Island).

Focus areas.

We invite you to apply if your organization aims to reduce carbon emissions of individuals and businesses by providing:

  • Tools, frameworks, resources, or training to measure and reduce their carbon emissions
  • Ways for businesses to reduce their direct and indirect emissions
  • Solutions that motivate behaviour change and create a measurable reduction in carbon emissions
  • Programs that engage individuals or businesses in groups to reduce carbon emissions together (e.g., neighbourhoods, industry clusters)
  • Service offerings that reduce the total consumption of goods and products through sharing, reuse, or other alternatives

We’re also looking for organizations that create the policy, business, and cultural context for low-carbon ways of life through initiatives that:

  • Take a sector-based approach to emissions reductions in: construction, manufacturing, accommodation & food services, health care, wholesale trade, retail trade, and waste management
  • Promote a cultural shift towards low-carbon living through campaigns in different forms of media
  • Support organizations and institutions looking to embed low-carbon frameworks into the decision-making processes
  • Convene larger, coordinated efforts among multiple stakeholders to propose solutions for policies that will enable a societal shift towards low-carbon ways of life

When to apply.

Due to an overwhelming number of highly-aligned applications within the first granting cycle, we will not be opening a second cycle as previously stated.

For grants up to $25,000

  • Apply from March 15 to June 15, 2023
Decisions will be made and communicated to applicants by August 15, 2023.

We thank all applicants for their submissions. However, please note that we anticipate receiving more requests than we're able to fund.

The enviroFund also provides System Transformation Grants — grants over $25,000 for initiatives that achieve outcomes at scale. Each year, we look at organizations who have received grants under $25,000, and identify candidates who may graduate to Systems Transformation Grants in the future. Candidates have been selected by invitation only for 2023.

Let's get started.
