Vancity Appoints Interim Board Member

David WongVancouver, BC, January 10, 2011— Vancity’s Board of Directors has appointed David Wong, an executive with Teekay Corporation, to fill a Board position vacated by Director Ian Gill, who resigned December 31, 2010 to permanently relocate to his native Australia.

The Credit Union Incorporation Act of BC allows a Board to appoint a replacement member who will only serve out the remaining term. In this case, David will serve as a member of the Board until May 10, 2011.

Vancity’s Board of Directors would like to thank Ian Gill for his contribution over the years. Ian had served on the Board since 2005. His background as a journalist and as the CEO of Ecotrust Canada added a dynamic to the Board that will be missed.

David is a Chartered Accountant and is currently the Vice President and Master Limited Partnerships Controller for Teekay Corporation based in Vancouver, BC. He has been with the firm since 2009. In the past, David has worked for BC Hydro, Powerex Corp., and Ernst and Young in various accounting and senior financial roles.

“We are very pleased to have David join Vancity’s Board of Directors,” says Patrice Pratt, Board Chair. “Although the appointment is for a short duration, I know he will make a strong contribution to our Board.”

David has been a member of the Board for Qmunity, a community resource centre, as well as chaired the Competency Map Committee for the Canadian Chartered Accountants association, and the North American Power Credit Organization, an international industry group. David also volunteers with the Canadian Chartered Accountants on various education committees.

As part of its annual election, Vancity is currently seeking nominations for its Board of Directors. Interested members can go to vancity.com to download a candidate’s package.
