Squamish Helping Hands Society

Squamish Helping Hands Society delivers rescued food to people in need

About this story

How do you get food from businesses that have too much to families who don’t have enough? You rescue it.

Since 2006, volunteers with the Squamish Helping Hands Society have been collecting excess food from restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores and farmer’s markets, and redistributing it to community groups to feed hungry people in the Squamish community.

A $20,000 grant from the Squamish Credit Union Legacy Fund allowed Squamish Helping Hands to hire a coordinator experienced in food rescue, recruitment and community outreach. As a result the program has become a more viable, sustainable and dependable solution for both donors and recipients.

Good Money puts healthy food into the hands of people who need it.
