Jonathan leads Vancity’s Member Impact and Experience Division, which oversees key strategies to help Vancity grow its impact and its business.
This includes Vancity’s commitments to climate action, including the credit union's ongoing work to reach Net Zero across all financed emissions by 2040. It also includes work to advance the credit union's Indigenous banking strategy, and its work around improving the financial health and resilience of its members. The division takes a systemic and integrated approach to this work, and includes the departments of Impact Strategy, Marketing and Product Development, Strategic Communications, and Government and Stakeholder Relations.
Jonathan previously served as Vancity’s VP of Government Relations, Public Affairs and Community Investment, and as Director of Communications. Prior to this, he was a reporter at The Globe and Mail and Vancouver Sun, where he covered multiple assignments including the Tour de France, the war in Afghanistan and served six years as legislative bureau chief in Victoria. Following that, he worked as a communications and public affairs consultant, advising some of B.C.’s top organizations.
Jonathan was a member of the Canadian government’s Sustainable Finance Action Council, and he currently represents North America on the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative’s Banking Board. He holds a position on the advisory council of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Centre of Excellence, an initiative of the B.C. government. He also serves on the advisory board for the Impact Investing Hub at the University of Victoria and is on the board of the Vancity Community Foundation.
Jonathan has degrees in Film Studies and Journalism and is an alumnus of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values Leadership Academy. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys running, cycling, skiing and exploring the Gulf Islands with his kids.
