Vancity Board appoints Patrick Nangle as Interim Director

Nangle to replace outgoing member Niki Sharma

Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Unceded territories of Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations/Vancouver B.C. – Vancity’s Board of Directors today announced the interim appointment of Patrick Nangle to the board. Patrick is being appointed in accordance with Vancity’s Rules to replace outgoing board member, Niki Sharma, who is stepping down to take up new responsibilities as the recently-elected member of the BC Legislature for Vancouver-Hastings. Patrick will serve a shortened term, until Vancity’s upcoming AGM in Spring 2021.

Patrick was a recommended candidate and placed fourth in the 2019 Vancity Board of Directors election. He is currently CEO of Modo Co-operative. Prior to joining Modo, he was President & CEO of Purolator Inc. He’s currently a board member with the British Columbia Co-op Association and Catalyst Community Developments Society, and he has further board experience with Covenant House Toronto and SCI Logistics.

“Niki’s experience and perspective have been of great value to Vancity’s Board during her tenure,” commented Jan O’Brien, Chair, Vancity Board. “On behalf of the entire board, I’d like to offer our sincere thanks and wish her the best in the future.”

“We’re pleased to welcome Patrick to the board until our next AGM as he brings a wealth of experience in complex business operations and in the co-operative sector,” concluded Jan.

Niki Sharma’s departure means that in the 2021 Board of Directors’ election, Vancity members will be asked to elect four directors, three for three-year terms and one for a one-year term.

While Niki is stepping down from her role as a director, the Board has appointed her as a member of its CEO Search Committee, which is currently leading the recruitment of a permanent CEO for Vancity. Niki has been a part of this search process from the beginning, and this appointment allows the process to continue without interruption.
