Vancity announces 2020 Board election results

Anita Braha, Lily Grewal, Christie Stephenson and Khelsilem elected


June 3, 2020, Unceded territories of Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations/Vancouver B.C. — Members of Vancity credit union have elected Anita Braha, Lily Grewal, and Christie Stephenson to the board of directors, each for a three-year term. Khelsilem has been elected to the board for a one-year period, serving the final year of a board member who resigned from the board on May 1 due to personal reasons.

“We’d like to thank all Vancity members who voted and supported the democratic governance of their credit union. It is great to see so many members play an active role in shaping the future of Vancity, which is vitally important as we support members through this challenging time,” said Niki Sharma Chair of Vancity’s Nominations and Election Committee.

During the election, which took place from May 11 to May 29, a total of 31,070 valid ballots and 31,285 votes were cast (the highest on record for thirty years). Full results from Vancity’s 2020 Board of Directors’ election are:

  • Anita Braha - 21,152 votes
  • Lily Grewal - 20,153 votes
  • Christie Stephenson - 19,224 votes
  • Khelsilem - 15,060 votes
  • Doug Enns - 13,611 votes
  • Suzanne Nievaart - 7,430 votes
