Vancity reprises its role as a partner sponsor of the 25th Annual Vancouver International Film Festival

Vancouver, September 6, 2006 – Vancity is pleased to extend its run for the fourth year as a partner sponsor of the Vancouver International Film Festival, to be held from September 28 – October 13.

"We are proud that our partnership with VIFF has played a role in the continued growth and future of one of Vancouver’s preeminent and enduring events," said Elain Duvall, Chair of Vancity’s Board of Directors. "Our two organizations have a shared commitment to cultural diversity, the exchange of new ideas and the telling of stories."

In what has become a Vancity VIFF tradition, the partnership of art and commerce will be cleverly depicted in a three-part series of 30-second movie trailers, featuring a quirky director.

A year has passed since the curtain rose on the Vancity Theatre located in the Vancouver International Film Centre at 1181 Seymour Street. Since its debut as part of last year’s VIFF, the Vancity Theatre has screened many of the industry’s most thought-provoking and inventive films and documentaries, to the delight of Vancouver cinephiles.

Vancity is already a well-regarded player in the province’s entertainment sector. Vancity’s subsidiary, Vancity Capital, provides financing for a number of B.C.’s most innovative and successful independent live action film, television, animation and gaming production companies, including Force Four Entertainment ("The Love Crimes of Gillian Guest"), Big Red Barn, Producers on Davie Pictures ("Scared Sacred", in co-production with the National Film Board) and Bardel Entertainment ("Silverwing" animated series).

Vancity, which is celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2006, has a history of supporting the arts and culture through sponsorships and grants including the Queer Film Festival, Bard on the Beach and Chutzpah! In 2003, Vancity members chose the Vancouver East Cultural Centre’s theatre revitalization project as the recipient of the annual $1-million Vancity Award.
