Vancity makes top employer lists

Vancity makes multiple “top employer” lists

Vancouver, BC, October 26, 2005 – They will be partying in the employee lounges over at Vancity, where Canada’s largest credit union has been named one of the best companies in the country to work for, landing on four top employer lists in the space of a few weeks.

Vancity has been chosen as one of the “Financial Post’s 10 Best Companies to Work for 2006”. This new award recognizes employers that are growing quickly and offer excellent career prospects. Vancity is one of two British Columbia companies on the list.

For the third year, Vancity has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers by Maclean’s Magazine. The list is unranked, but last year Vancity was singled out as the number one employer in Canada. There was no #1 company selected this year.

Vancity also landed on a new list – BC’s Top Employers competition, a supplement to the Maclean’s list that recognizes the best 25 employers regionally, which will be published in local daily newspapers.

Both Canada’s Top 100 Employers, and BC’s Top Employers lists are compiled by Mediacorp Inc., a publisher of job-hunting periodicals, including Canada Employment Weekly. Vancity was picked for its longstanding reputation for corporate citizenship, its track record for making financial services accessible to people with low income, its progressive vacation policy and its commitment to the environment and environmentally friendly transportation.

Vancity was also chosen as having one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures of 2005. Published in Canadian Business magazine, the list is based on interviews with more than 100 executives from among Canada’s top 1,000 public and private companies. The study was conducted by executive search firm Waterstone Human Capital Inc. Organizations were picked for their innovation, industry leadership and having corporate cultures that foster retention and peak performance.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized as a top company,” says Vancity CEO Dave Mowat. “Our employees go flat out to make us stand out as an organization. They care about providing great service to our members. They use their skills to make our communities better. This is a passion that you can’t bottle or buy. The kudos really belong to them for making this such an amazing place to come to every day.”
