Vancity named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2015
To coincide with Earth Day, Canada’s Top 100 Employers have announced Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2015 and Vancity has made the list again.
This special designation recognizes employers who are creating a culture of environmental awareness through exceptional earth-friendly initiatives and attracting people to their organizations because of their environmental leadership.
Green employers were evaluated using the following criteria:
- The unique environmental initiatives and programs they have developed.
- The extent to which they have been successful in reducing the organization's own environmental footprint.
- The degree to which their employees are involved in these programs and whether they contribute any unique skills.
- The extent to which these initiatives have become linked to the employer's public identity and whether they attract new people to the organization.
So…what makes us so green?
- We maintain a corporate target to ensure that no less than 70% of office waste is recycled.
- We offer our members a suite of green financial products, including financing rewards for green home renovations; discounted loans for the purchase of fuel-efficient, hybrid and electric cars; and an investment fund targeting companies with progressive social, environmental and corporate governance practices.
- Every year, five per cent of our Vancity enviro Visa* profits are distributed back to the local community through the Vancity enviroFund™ program.
- We offer Climate Smart scholarships to Vancity business members looking to green their operations. To date we’ve helped more than 160 businesses measure and manage their carbon footprint through Climate Smart training.
