Vancity declares support for the Great Bear region

Vancity is proud to be the first organization to join the World Wildlife Fund and Coastal First Nations in support of Canada's Great Bear region.

Great Bear refers to a region of temperate rain forest on the BC Coast between Vancouver Island and Southeast Alaska, as well as the Great Bear Sea. It's one of the richest and most spectacular places on Earth, containing important ecosystems, cultures, jobs and communities.

As a co-operative, we exist for the sole benefit of our members and the communities in which they live and work. We believe that we can only prosper as individuals if we are connected to a healthy, sustainably community. As a result, we feel that it's in the best interest of our members and their communities to protect the Great Bear. Whether we're talking about fishing or tourism or wildlife—the future of the Great Bear affects all Canadians. We have a longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and we use our convening power to advance dialogue on environmental issues.
