Klahowya Village in Stanley Park

Klahowya Village 2014

Klahowya Village is a social enterprise. This means it operates as a business owned by not-for-profit organization to generate revenue, which supports Aboriginal Tourism BC's mission to promote authentic cultural tourism within British Columbia.

Klahowya Village supports the Aboriginal tourism sector through on-site skills training and employment creation. The village also ploughs profits back into the sector, and raises public awareness and awareness within the tourism sector of the opportunities available to experience authentic Aboriginal history and culture.

The word “Klahowya” means welcome, and each summer Aboriginal people from across British Columbia come together to build Klahowya Village in Stanley Park. The village welcomes visitors from around the world to showcase Aboriginal traditions, experiences, and culture.

From Aboriginal Day to Labour Day (Saturday, June 21 – Monday, September 1) Stanley Park transforms into Klahowya Village, a family friendly Aboriginal cultural experience. For more information regarding daily scheduling and costs please visit www.klahowyavillage.com

Why is Vancity partnering with Klahowya Village?

Vancity is proud to sponsor Klahowya Village as it shares BC’s diverse Aboriginal culture. At Vancity we work in partnership with local First Nations, the Metis community, and Aboriginal not-for-profit organizations to support community development and independence.

Vancity partners with Aboriginal Tourism BC by supporting the Trailblazers Program, which helps trains Aboriginal ambassadors, including the staff at Klahowya Village, in BC's rich indigenous culture. Click here to learn more of how Vancity is investing in Aboriginal communities.
