Vancity is celebrating our 70th anniversary this year and one of our key member and staff engagement opportunities is with an upcoming partnership we have with Canada Wild Productions Ltd. We are a presenting sponsor of UNINTERRUPTED, a 30-minute cinematic spectacle that will project the story of the wild Pacific salmon migration beneath the Cambie Street Bridge. This cinematic art installation stature will digitally transform the almost one kilometer undersurface of the city bridge into a BC river to explore the connection between nature and our urban environments.

To celebrate with our members, Vancity is hosting four 70A VIP celebration events once a month during the screenings. The VIP nights will take place on Friday, June 30th; Friday, July 21st; Friday, August 11th; and Friday, September 8th. We are also giving a chance for our members to win tickets to an exclusive VIP experience at UNINTERRUPTED that includes access to prime seating, special 70th anniversary themed gifts, and yummy treats. Tickets can be won through our blog, social media channels, and by visiting a Vancity booth at one of our local community events this summer.

The City of Port Coquitlam strives to strengthen the downtown centre through arts, cultural and heritage programming. The Farmers Market, which includes local artists and artisans, was implemented and continues to be delivered in partnership with the Haney Farmers Market Society of Maple Ridge.

The Farmers Market promotes awareness and appreciation for farm fresh produce, local eating which supports the economy and increase the capacity of small businesses (farmers and artisans) and non-profit organizations in the community. The Market enhances community participation and livability, and contributes towards making downtown a destination.

Back-Pack to School is a school supplies drive for elementary schools in the tri-cities area. The aim is to support early childhood education and low income families. We want to enrich our local schools in need by providing equal opportunities for kids to meet/exceed their potential. By doing this we are providing a ‘hands together’ approach and getting our community members involved. We hope to assist in making what could be an expensive time for some –purchasing school supplies- into a positive and hopeful time. We want to empower our membership and the community in which it thrives.

Surrey Fest Downtown was formed in 1999 to promote and celebrate community pride through a day of fun and entertainment for all ages while providing a venue for groups and organizations to inform the community of their services.

In 2017, we will mark the 19th anniversary of the festival. There is always something new or different for pre-schoolers, children, youth, adult and seniors at the festival. As many as 7,000 people visit the festival each year to view the exhibits and enjoy food and live entertainment.

Feast of Fields is a 4 hour wandering gourmet harvest festival that highlights the connections between farmers and chefs, field and table, and between farm folks and city folks. With a wine glass and linen napkin in hand, you'll stroll across a farmers field, traveling from tent to tent listening to live music, and tasting gourmet creations from some of BC's top chefs, bakers, food artisans, vintners, brewers, distillers and other beverage producers.

Funds raised at Feast of Fields support FarmFolk CityFolk’s work to cultivate local, sustainable food systems across British Columbia. This work includes the Local Food Microloan Program, which is a partnership with Vancity to deliver zero interest loans to scale up local food production.

Families Dealing with Mental Illness Courses

Location: North Shore, Tri Cities, Vancouver

Cost to attend : None

An intensive 12-session course with topics including: symptoms of the illnesses (bipolar, schizophrenia, clinical depression, anxiety), medications and communication, problem solving, advice on working with the system, and looking after yourself as a caregiver.

The course is taught by trained family members who themselves have ill relatives and many years’ experience dealing with system. It will be of particular interest to families whose relatives have recently been diagnosed.
