Non-Profit Organizations Invited to Apply for Vancity Envirofund Grants

Vancouver, June 5, 2002 - Vancity Credit Union is accepting applications from non-profit organizations in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Victoria until July 1 for its EnviroFund grants, which provide up to $25,000 to local non-profit organizations for environmental projects.

This year, Vancity is looking for projects focusing on air quality and transportation, water, wetlands or watersheds, or hazardous wastes and toxins in the environment.

The funds come from Vancity's VISA program, which donates five per cent of its profits from its Gold, Silver and EnviroFund credit cards to the EnviroFund. The fund provides grants to local community groups whose projects provide long-term solutions to environmental problems in the community.

Last year, five organizations received $80,000 in total. Since the program was established in 1990, $802,000 has been donated to support environmental projects. To find out how to submit an application for a 2002 EnviroFund grant, visit vancity.com/grants or call 604-877-7620.
