2011 Legacy Fund Grant Recipients

On April 13, 2011, two community organizations got a nice gift from the Squamish Credit Union Legacy Fund, which provides grants to charitable organizations and community groups performing worthwhile projects to improve the quality of life in the District of Squamish.

The Legacy Fund was established after the merger between the Squamish Credit Union and Vancouver City Savings Credit Union, to commemorate the sixty-year history of the Squamish Credit Union.

Squamish Trails Society/Squamish River Watershed Society's Outreach and Education Project

This project will deliver high quality, engaging activities that teach students, parents, teachers and the community about salmonid fisheries, aquatic ecosystems, and the importance of local water in our lives. Students, teachers, parents and community volunteers will be educated about the Squamish area fisheries resources, rivers, streams and estuary and how everyone can make a difference in maintaining habitat and ecosystem integrity.

Squamish Helping Hands Food Distribution Program

The Squamish Helping Hands Food Distribution Program will have a coordinator who will oversee the program; schedule and supervise volunteers; do outreach and networking with community donors and recipients; create community awareness by connecting with children, youth and families through local schools, community groups and other non-profit organizations. This will then help the program to reach their goal of becoming a sustainable community where no one goes hungry, making sure kids and families have enough to eat, where waste can be on the decline while healthy eating for everyone is on the rise.
