Aboriginal housing soars to new heights

Circle of Eagles Lodge Society (COELS) is an Aboriginal organization that helps Aboriginal ex-offenders integrate into society through highly effective rehabilitation services and a halfway house. When COELS needed a loan to bridge a shortfall in government funding for a much-needed housing project, Vancity filled the $600,000 gap. In addition, Vancity provided additional financing to consolidate expensive debt, freeing up working capital for other renovations and expansion. With Vancity’s support, the Circle of Eagles Lodge Society was able to move forward with a complete rebuild of one of their facilities, which will result in new and enhanced program space and housing for 16 Aboriginal men transitioning out of the justice system.
