“We do our best to keep costs low and our food healthy, and to care for our seniors.” -- Sam Chan, Better Meals

Life as an elderly person can be challenging. Some people lose their ability to drive, shop or cook; others find a fixed income limiting. Many struggle with malnutrition.

Better Meals, launched in 1993 by Sam Chan and Ann McGrail, was created to facilitate seniors’ independent living through the cooking and delivery of affordable, healthy, ready-to-eat meals.

Better Meals' drivers believe in building friendly customer relationships. They’ve been known to help in small and big ways, from changing a light bulb to saving a life. “They are the eyes and ears of our seniors,” says Sam.

To meet steadily increasing demand, Sam Chan went to Vancity, which offered financing that allowed Better Meals to purchase a much larger building and new equipment. The company is now positioned for growth and has plans for further expansion.
