For: The constituents of the Corporate Knights Leadership Diversity Index are the companies with the greatest visible minority or aboriginal representation and female representation in the boardroom. Vancity maintained its ranking on top of Corporate Knights’ 2012 Diversity Index list for female representation on Canadian boards. Ranking on the Diversity Index is an element of the governance indicator as part of the methodology for a company’s consideration for the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada.

For: The annual Best Employers in Canada study, performed by global human resources consulting firm Aon Hewitt, identifies organizations with the highest employee engagement. Aon Hewitt describes engagement as when employees “say, stay and strive” at work, or, when they speak positively about their employer to others, are committed to remaining with their current employer, and are motivated by their organizations’ leaders, managers, culture and values to go “above and beyond” to contribute to business success. This year’s list of the 50 Best Employers in Canada was published in a special editorial feature in Maclean’s Magazine.

For: Vancity received four wins in the Georgia Straight’s annual Best of Vancouver awards, and was recognized as the ‘Best place to get a mortgage’ and ‘Best place to buy RRSPs’. Vancity also placed second as ‘Best local employer’ and third for ‘most environmentally responsible local company’.

Corporate Knight’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens of Canada ranks corporate citizenship based on a number of environmental, social and governance indicators using a methodology developed with financial support from Industry Canada and recognized by the global initiative Rate the Raters as a leading global practice.

For: Vancity has been named one of Canada's "Green 30", a list that recognizes organizations whose employees are most positive about their record of environmental stewardship. The Green 30 list is compiled from employee feedback using Hewitt's Employee Green Index, which focuses on employers' strategies, activities and efforts to minimize the environmental impact of their operations, products and services. As part of the 2010 Best Employers in Canada and Best Small & Medium Employers in Canada studies, Hewitt surveyed over 112,000 employees at more than 261 organizations regarding their employers' commitment to environmental stewardship.
