long version of this story
The vision of the Vancouver Hospice Society (VHS), a Vancity member since 2004, is to build small freestanding hospice homes where the dying can be empowered to live with dignity and where family and friends feel welcomed, supported and part of the circle of care. The VHS provides programs and services including a Bereavement Walking Program, Healing Touch and a Children’s Grief and Family Support Program.
Now, with the help of a significant loan from Vancity in 2009 for the purchase of a property on Granville Street and a Vancity construction loan to build the property, the society has its first state-of-the-art community hospice. The hospice has six patient rooms that will accommodate as many as 150 terminally ill patients each year.
