Vancity announces Janelle Aaker as Chief Equity and People Officer


Thursday, October 21, 2021, Territories of Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations/Vancouver B.C. —Vancity has announced Janelle Aaker as its Chief Equity and People Officer, reporting to President and CEO, Christine Bergeron. In this new role, Janelle will join the Executive Leadership Team and serve as executive sponsor of our Employee Resource Groups. She will lead Vancity’s Human Resources team and advance the organization’s commitments to anti-racism, equity and justice.

Janelle is known as a driving force in creating diversity and equity and joins Vancity with 15 years' experience in global companies such as Lululemon and Nike. She is highly regarded for her thoughtful and values-driven leadership of human resources and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategies and teams. As VP of Global Diversity & Inclusion and Chief of Staff for People & Culture at Lululemon, Janelle led the organization's first global roadmap to advance diversity and inclusion. As a consultant, she's partnered with organizations on a range of mental health and DEI strategies and projects.
