Vancity announces board chair and vice chair for 2013 – 2014 term

For immediate release -- June 25, 2013

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancity's board of directors has re-elected Virginia Weiler as chair and Jan O’Brien as vice chair for a one-year term.

Weiler was first elected by members to the Vancity board in 2007 and is now serving her third term. “Sharing a passion for serving our members’ financial needs and at the same time building healthy communities and improving our collective well-being inspires me and my fellow board members on a daily basis,” says Weiler. “I’m honoured to continue to help guide the organization to ensure its long-term success and build on the progress we’ve made toward our vision.”

O’Brien, who is also serving her second term and was elected in 2009, says the organization’s vision requires creating a more sustainable way to bank. “We’re focused on understanding and meeting the real needs of our member, and looking after their long-term well-being, not just their short-term transactions,” says O’Brien. “Our goal is to make values-based banking the new normal and create positive impact for our members and communities.”

In the recent Vancity board of directors’ election, Vancity members re-elected Allen Garr, Virginia Weiler and Bob Williams, all for three-year terms. They join current board members Anita Braha, Teresa Conway, Greg McDade, Jan O’Brien, Patrice Pratt and David Wong.
