Richmond Society for Community Living

About this story

"We’ve heard from many of our youth that having a job gives them purpose and independence—that it makes their life complete. The program wouldn’t exist without Vancity.” – Lisa Cowell, Manager with Richmond Society for Community Living.

When you team up a vigorous community organization with an active financial institution, it can be the catalyst for many years of positive community impact.

The Richmond Society for Community Living has been a Vancity member since 2001. Over time, Vancity has provided preferred rates, grants, investments, access, financial services and advice for the not-for-profit society and its participants.

At each stage Vancity has been active and present, from grants to start up a Youth Employment Project, services to support the Richmond HandyCrew Co-operative, and financial products that ensure the Society continues to meet the needs of people with developmental disabilities.

With accounts, investments and a successful co-operative business, RSCL is a mature community organization thriving in and supporting its community—proving that a relationship built on shared values between an active financial institution and a vigorous business member can be a catalyst for many years of positive community impact.
