long version of this story
Greek people have a long and important role in Victoria’s history and economy. By 2006, Greek-Canadians totaled 21,770 in BC and 1,355 in Victoria. Over the past century, many have overcome great challenges to make significant contributions to Victoria’s society and economy.
Since 2000 the not-for-profit Victoria and Vancouver Island Greek Community Society, has been doing great work to support Greeks and non-Greeks in the local community. With over 250 members, the Society offers 34 programs and is seen as an inclusive and engaging community asset.
Since 2002 the Society has expanded services 1033% and growing in capacity has also meant growing in physical size. Vancity financing helps fund an expansion that will increase the size of the kitchen and banquet hall while improving their revenue potential by 100%. This investment will improve services and infuse energy into a new generation of members.
