External phishing alert

Dec. 11, 2018 A new phishing email sent by a third-party has been detected. It tricks people into clicking a link to a fraudulent website that closely resembles (See screenshot of email.) Vancity DID NOT send this email. DO NOT click on the link or enter your online banking information.

Equifax alert

December 14, 2017, UPDATE – Equifax Canada, one of two service providers for credit bureau reporting in Canada, has revised its estimate on the number of Canadians potentially impacted by a security breach of its servers earlier this year. More than 19,000 Canadians were potentially affected.

We share our members concerns about the breach and are closely monitoring the situation. As a regular security precaution, we encourage Vancity members to check their monthly account statements – banking and credit card – and report any anomalies.

IRB and RCMP alert

December 13, 2017 – There is an ongoing telephone scam targeting refugee and immigrant communities. Callers are claiming to represent the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) or RCMP and demanding money.

If you receive a call of this nature, do not comply with any of the demands and instead contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. If you believe that you have fallen victim to fraud, call your local police as soon as possible.
