  1. What is a chargeback and how can it be avoided?
A chargeback is a cheque or pre-authorized payment that has been negotiated at Vancity and subsequently returned by the issuing financial institution for various reasons, which include but are not limited to: NSF, stop payment, account closed, or fraud. Chargebacks are not always avoidable so use extra caution if you are not familiar with the person who wrote the cheque or the issuer of the cheque.

  2. How can I avoid an NSF charge
Anticipating your next payment is essential to avoiding overdraft fees and NSF fees. Knowing exactly when your next payment is due will allow you to be as prepared as possible. Alternatively, you can contact us to explore different options that can prevent future overdraft or NSF fees, which may include applying for a line-of-credit (“Personaline”) or setting up your account to automatically transfer funds between your Vancity accounts if one is overdrawn (“Coverdraft”).

  3. How can I find an ATM that doesn’t charge me money
There are more than 100 Vancity Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, and Greater Victoria for your daily banking convenience—you can find one near you right here. But as a member of THE EXCHANGE® and ACCULINK® Networks, your debit card provides you with ding-free access to over 4,000 ATMs Canada-wide – click here to learn more.
