Avoid fraudulent e-mail and websites

Nothing is more important to us than the security of your personal information. That's why Vancity has added Personal Access features to online banking.

These features help prevent what is called "phishing." Phishing is a type of deception designed to steal a member's personal information, like credit card numbers, passwords or other account information.

Other ways you can protect yourself from phishing scams:

  • Protect your computer with antivirus software, spyware filters, email filters and firewall programs.
  • Do not reply to any email that requests your personal information.
  • Look for misspelled words.
  • Contact Member Services Centre at 604.877.7000 or toll free at 1.888.Vancity (826.2489) or visit your branch immediately to report your suspicions.

Better protection from fraudulent websites
You can also visually verify the authenticity of our website with a high-security Web browser and further reduce the threat from phishing attacks.

All modern browsers support a technology known as Extended Validation or EV, which provides colour-coded alerts that instantly inform you of the validity of a website. The technology also provides details of the business, such as the organization’s name.
