What we do – our areas of focus

We take a holistic approach by bringing the talents and resources of Vancity together to support and assist Indigenous organizationsand First Nations in their efforts to improve the standard of living of their members and move forward in their goal of self-reliance and independence.

Access to financial services and financial literacy

A key part of Vancity's Community Investment strategy is to support initiatives that help people build assets that transform their lives and their communities. This includes providing tools to increase personal financial knowledge, and ensuring that financial services are accessible to – and mindful of – individuals who, traditionally, may not have maintained bank accounts.

Our small business and start-up loans provide financial support for individuals interested in starting their own businesses or want to buy or expand an existing business who may not be able to secure conventional business financing. Vancity also has personal loan products for individuals who require tools, equipment, or certification to get back on the path towards self reliance.

Our investment services through the Sustainable Wealth Management division, provides investment portfolio advice and solutions to organizations and individuals and also offers group RRSP plans for employee groups that focus on socially responsible investing.

Affordable housing and home ownership

Healthy communities need stable, sustainable, housing solutions that cross a wide continuum: from emergency shelter through to home ownership. We partner with Aboriginal organizations and First Nations to help create and deliver on- and off-reserve housing solutions.

On-reserve housing loans provide traditional mortgage-like financing options that allow members of First Nations communities to build or buy their own home and create family wealth through home ownership. We understand that each First Nation government has its own approach to home ownership within their community. Vancity works with our partners and communities to develop solutions that provide practical suitable choices.
