How we're changing banking for the better.

A: Let’s be honest. Housing affordability is one of the most important challenges we face. The Lower Mainland is Canada’s most expensive real estate market, with Victoria and Squamish not far behind. It’s why we believe in creating a strong and stable affordable housing market. And your deposits are helping us make it happen.

When residents can’t afford to own their home, the bonds between people and communities begin to break down. So we want to play a vital role in making this place more affordable. Over the past several years, we’ve built strategic partnerships with developers and encouraged them to expand affordable housing options (defined as 75% or less than the cost of market rate housing). We’ve created new mortgage products that make home ownership more accessible. And we’ve also invested directly in affordable housing projects.

What we're doing

  • 60 West Cordova project
A great example of how we’ve created an opportunity for members to purchase affordable housing and develop a vibrant community.
  • Building affordable housing in Victoria
We’re proud to be the financing partner for the Greater Victoria Housing Society, one of BC’s largest not-for-profit housing societies.
  • A new model for co-op housing
A partnership between Vancity and the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC is making downtown living more affordable.
  • Sam Greer Place Co-op renovation and upgrade
We helped Sam Greer Place Co-op modernize and green two of their century-old buildings with a $500,000 renovation loan.
