Jonathan Fowlie

Chief External Relations Officer

Jonathan leads Vancity’s External Relations and Impact Strategy division – an integrated group that oversees Vancity’s key strategies towards building a clean and fair world. The division includes the departments and channels that support and advance this work: community investment, climate strategy and performance; government relations; marketing; strategic brand communications; and stakeholder and member relations.

As a financial co-operative that puts people first, Vancity understands that the major challenges affecting our members and communities cannot be addressed by one person or organization, but instead require people acting together to have a real impact. Under Jonathan, the division executes on Vancity’s major impact programs and strategies including its commitments to climate action and a just transition, and programs on affordable housing, Indigenous partnerships, and social and financial inclusion. The division also manages the credit union’s brand and reputation, telling the story of our work and of the individual actions members can take, and sharing the successes of people and communities coming together to create change.

Jonathan previously served as Vancity’s VP of Government Relations, Public Affairs & Community Investment, and Director of Communications. Prior to this, he worked as a communications and public affairs consultant, advising some of B.C.’s top organizations through a variety of issues and opportunities. Earlier in his career, Jonathan was a reporter at The Vancouver Sun and The Globe and Mail, where he covered multiple assignments including the Tour de France, the war in Afghanistan and served six years as legislative bureau chief in Victoria.

Jonathan has degrees in Film Studies and Journalism and is an alumnus of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values Leadership Academy. He has served as a Board member with the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and is currently a board member of the Vancity Community Foundation.

In his free time, Jonathan enjoys running, cycling, skiing and exploring the Gulf Islands.
