Lily Grewal

Lily is a longtime community advocate who brings leadership, governance and financial experience to Vancity's Board of Directors. She approaches her work with a focus on collaboration, inclusion and diversity.

A member for more than 10 years, Lily was drawn to Vancity's commitment to social justice, co-operative values and the environment from the start. Elected in 2014, Lily joined the board to help ensure the credit union stays true to its roots and reflects the communities it serves.

Throughout her career, Lily has been dedicated to social change. As a creative and solution-focused administrator with over 15 years of community and governance experience, she brings collaborative leadership that is focused on outcomes. She has spearheaded complex program and policy initiatives across a variety of sectors including non-profits, communities and public institutions. Some highlights include the development of multi-million dollar programming for immigrants, creating community-led youth initiatives in under-served communities and the development of equity policies for community organizations.

Lily's community activism includes time as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Delta/Richmond and the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians in Toronto. She has also volunteered her time as a shop steward in her workplace and been involved in community and environmental advocacy in her neighbourhood.

Lily holds a bachelor of arts in sociology and women's studies from the University of British Columbia and a master of social work from the University of Toronto. While earning her master's degree, she worked with homeless women at a community health centre in Toronto's Regent Park neighbourhood and on various research initiatives across the city.

A daughter of immigrants, Lily was born and raised in Richmond and currently lives in Delta with her husband and young son, where they enjoy the forests and cycling paths in their community. She is an avid transit user and enjoys yoga, visiting her local farmers' market and supporting local businesses.

Lily remained a Vancity member even while living in Toronto and was impressed by the flexibility the credit union offers its members who live out of province or who are travelling the world. She's now a proud member of the North Delta community branch, where her family holds a mortgage and does all their banking.
